E2, E4 and E7 Learning Support Coordinators (LSCs) collaborated and organized "Celebrate Reading" event for Learning Support Programme (LSP) pupils on the 16th July. A total of 14 schools participated in the event. There were 3 games involving "One-minute Dash", "Spelling" and "Reading of the Connected Texts" and each school was represented by 10 Primary 2 pupils.
The rationale of this event is to provide a platform for LSP pupils to showcase their abilities in reading and to celebrate their success. Wonderfully, Fengshan pupils comprising of Sukumar, Qian Ni and Siti Hajar came in first for the "Spelling" game. Next, Ruan Qichen, together with 2 other pupils from 2 other schools came in second for the "One-minute Dash" game. Joyfully, Siti Alwiyah also came in second for the "Reading of the Connected Texts" game. It was indeed a very joyous and fruitful event for all the pupils broadening their learning experiences.
Team Fengshan took part in the National Inter-Primary School Netball Tournament this year and achieved their best ever performance!
The girls started intensive preparations for the games since Nov 2009, starting with a 1-week training stint in Perth. After months of training, our girls entered the zonal games with confidence. Both Senior and Junior Teams emerged as East Zone Champions 2010.
The national round commenced in June. The girls displayed a high level of skills, confidence and pride in their games. Against stronger teams from all over the country, both teams never failed to impress spectators and opponents. Our Senior team emerged second runner-up whilst the Junior team defended the Championship title!
This outing of nine lively 10-year old Science Club volunteers, along with their teachers and mums to Pulau Ubin on 20 February 2010, resulted from a chance conversation between Tan Hang Chong and NSS member Cheryl Lao, who is also a teacher at Fengshan Primary School. The Fengshan pupils got to know every nook and cranny of the NSS Green Hub @ Ubin when they enthusiastically combed the area for non-biodegradable rubbish, greatly sprucing up this property. Under Hang Chong's care, they were also learning non-stop about nature as they traipsed off on a walk around Ubin. Along the way, they bumped into the NSS Kids’ excursion, where Auntie Gloria was lining up children to show them a perched Peregrine Falcon. Fengshan pupils also took turns peering through the scope at this majestic bird of prey.
The spanking clean NSS Green Hub had its first visitors in the form of the NSS Kids' group. After their three-hour fun with nature walk, these kids were still full of beans, popping up and down answering Auntie Gloria's quiz questions. NSS Executive Officer Justin Wong secured a sponsor, Mr Richard Ng, who had four 1m x 1m solar panels, energy-saving LED lights and fans installed at the Green Hub on 5 March 2010.
The hub’s first official event took place on 7 March 2010, where Ms Linda Loo from The Vegetarian Society led a session on breathing exercises to clear minds and energise bodies. She also expounded on the topic of “Why we should eat raw and why raw is green?”, and held a food demonstration on making raw vegan rojak.
This art piece is made to create awareness of the culture in Bolivia. In view of YOG, Fengshan Primary School will be hosting athletes from Bolivia. The art piece shows the mountainous areas and the famous Lake Titicaca in Bolivia. A lady is rowing a reed boat. There are forty-two man-made reed islands on the lake. It is a famous tourist attraction. In the foreground, a woman in Bolivian traditional clothes carrying items wrapped in an aguayo, a colourful sling made from woven fabric. She is wearing a Bowler hat, locally called a bombin. The position of the hat can indicate a woman's marital status and aspirations.
On 20th April 2010, the Fengshan School Choir partiticipated in the SYF Central Judging for Choir and garnered the Silver award. Our 45 students did a wonderful job of performing "Kimi Ono Se Te", "Five Eyes" and the set-piece
"My Shadow" at Victoria Concert Hall. We would like to appreciate the effort put in by our students as many of them have displayed professionalism and poise throughout the course of preparation.
The Malay Dance CCA Group consist of 13 pupils, 8 girls and 5 boys from across level. This years' SYF competition, our schools' Malay Dance achieved Silver. The pupils have practiced very hard and for some, it is their first time achievement. Ms Esliza has been the instructor for more than three years and she has been committed and taught the pupils the dance skills well. Our aim for SYF 2012 is Gold with Honors. More interesting activities are being planned so that the pupils receive a holistic development.
